Description:

Consignor note: "Best and one of the strongest of the German true falling block actions. "This early 20th century rifle has "OTTO SEELIG WIESBADEN" on the top of the barrel, a ramped and winged post front sight, flared top flat at the breech for a removable rear sight (absent), a tang mounted safety, double set triggers, and a checkered Schnabel tip forearm and pistol grip stock with carved grip cap, shadow line cheekpiece, and a checkered hard rubber buttplate. There are sling swivels on the bottom of the barrel and stock. There are German proofmarks on the left side and bottom of the barrel and right side of the receiver at the breech. The action is engraved with intricate Germanic leaf engraving and has a boar scene on the right, a "ET" monogram on the bottom, and a stag scene on the left. The muzzle is marked "E. THUMANN." Multiple Thumann marksmen are listed in early 20th century American articles about target shooting, and there were likely many more active in Europe. Included with the rifle is a box of 20 RWS 8.15x46R unprimed cases.

Rating Definition:

Very good. 95% plus of the original blue finish remains. The action has some strong traces of the original case colors in the protected areas and otherwise a dark gray and brown patina. There are some minor spots of light oxidation. The wood is very good. There is some chipping at the rear of the forend and on the grip cap, a few scrapes in the checkering, and some small dings and light scratches throughout. The markings and engraving designs are crisp, and the action and set triggers function well.
