Description:

Measuring 35 inches in length, with a silver banded iron tip, a one inch thick hardwood shaft, and a golden head with octagonal side flats and a flat top. The sides are decorated with scroll engraving with alternating panels of Indians and outdoorsmen along with the inscription "PRESENTED/TO/John Henderson/Esq/By his Nephew/Beverly Thomas/San Francisco/1875". On top of the head is a hinged octagonal panel made from high concentration gold/quartz ore, which opens to reveal a glass-topped round chamber with six compartments, which appear to contain gold flakes, iron filings, an unidentified blue material, and three other unknown minerals. While no documentation is available, the date and decoration suggest involvement in the California mining trade.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, with some light handling marks overall.
