Colt Commercial 45 Government Model from the late Dr. Joseph A. Murphy collection. Manufactured in 1917, this pistol has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish with polished barrel chamber top and checkered oil finished walnut grips. The pistol has a commercial production, two-tone magazine with lanyard loop. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 45" in two lines in front of the ejection port. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the Colt 1897-1913 patent dates in two-line block followed by the Colt Hartford legend in a two-line block. The Rampant Colt trademark is stamped behind the left slide serration. The web on the left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with the Colt 'Triangle/VP' proof mark and a "V" assembly mark is stamped on the lower left side of the bow just ahead of the frame. The right side of the frame is roll-stamped: "GOVERNMENT MODEL" above the serial number "C 94311". All of the markings utilize Roman (serif) letters. The underside of the barrel is stamped with a "P" proof mark and "O" inspection mark in front of the lug. The top of the frame is stamped with a "G" production order mark behind the disconnector hole and a "V" assembler's mark to the right of the hole. The pistol has the correct short hammer with rounded rear edge, 1914 style safety lock and 1911 style slide stop with plunger groove. The walnut grips have approximately 15 lines of checkering between the diamond screw escutcheons.
