Description:

According to the included factory letter, this pistol was one of two shipped to the Buckingham-Ensley-Carrigan Company on 8 July 1919, with "blue" finish and "Not Listed" grips. On the letter the company address is "Unavailable", but research shows a sporting goods company by that name in Memphis, Tennessee at the time in question. That firm was partially owned by Nash Buckingham, writer and conservationist, who among other claims was one of the men who helped developed the Super-X shotshell for Winchester and the original owner of the legendary customized "Bo-Whoop" HE Grade Super Fox Shotgun. Fixed sights, with the two-block, patent/address markings and Rampant Colt on the left side on the slide, "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" on the right, and rear serrations. It has a casehardened spur hammer, royal blue magazine catch, screws and pins, unmarked full blue magazine with a split-top follower and a pair of checkered Colt banner grips.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 60% of the faded original blue finish, showing areas of mixed brown and gray on the grip straps and slide, the latter concentrated towards the muzzle, bright edge wear and scattered handling marks and spotting. A thumb-sized patch of pitting is present on the left side of the slide ahead of the patent dates. The case colors have aged gently on the hammer, with the pattern remaining strong and a few areas of bright color. Some minor dings are present on the grips, which are otherwise very good with crisp checkering and fine detail in the decoration. Mechanically excellent.
