Ross rifles were purchased by the U.S. Army for training purposes shortly after the United States entered WWI in 1917. The left side of the receiver is marked "ROSS RIFLE CO. QUEBEC CANADA. 1905./PATENTED." The U.S. Army ordnance bomb is stamped behind the trigger guard along with the numbers "1589" and "27." The right side of the butt stock is stamped with numerous issue and inspection markings. It has a hooded blade front sight, windage and elevation adjustable rear sight, bayonet lug, casehardened bolt, and smooth one-piece stock and matching hand guard with steel buttplate with compartment (empty).
