This is an early WWII US Springfield M1 Garand rifle that was sold to the British under the WWII Lend-Lease program. It was manufactured circa Jan 1942 and the barrel is correctly stamped with the British proof marks from the London Proof House. The receiver has the standard markings of: "U.S. RIFLE/CAL..30 M1/SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/545319". The side of the barrel is stamped with correct inverted "S A -1-42" followed by the inverted British tonnage proofs marks followed by the raised British scimitar/NP proof marks for the London proof house. It is fitted with the correct early, SA marked parts such as the -2SA marked bolt, the -6 SA uncut operating rod, the -5-SA marked trigger housing and internal components. It has the original early WWII rear sights with the elevation knob correctly marked "BATTLE RANGE" with the early flat windage knob, that is fitted with a modified locking bar. It still retains the original narrow gas cylinder and gas cylinder lock with the early front sight and front sight screw with the screw cap in place. It is fitted with its original early WWII stock and handguard set with a checkered steel buttplate on the stock with the early beveled lower barrel band and grooved rear handguard clip. The pistol grip area of the stock is stamped with a serrifed circled "P" proof and the stock cartouches and ordnance stamp on the left side has been carefully removed.

Very fine with 97% plus of the original parkerized finish with light finish loss on the right receiver rail and operating rod track. The stock and handguards are both in fine condition with minimal handling marks on the sides with a couple of light pressure dents on the top of the rear handguard with some very light sanding marks on the left side of the stock where the cartouches were removed.
