This is very good example of a very late production, Winchester Model 97 Trench gun as manufactured in 1950. The left side of the barrel has the two-line Winchester factory address and Model markings with "CYL" below the markings. The top of the barrel and receiver having the Winchester circled "W/P" proof. The top of the barrel is also marked with the Ordnance Department flaming bomb proof. The left rear side of the receiver is roll stamped with the "U.S./flaming bomb" proof and it is fitted with the late four hole heat shield with the bayonet lug on the front end. The barrel correctly protrudes from the end of the adaptor. The underside of the receiver and barrel extension are both marked with the matching serial number "E951952". The barrel is choked cylinder and has a 2 3/4 inch chamber. It is fitted with the 18 groove round walnut forearm and low comb, pistol grip stock. The side of the stock has a boxed "G.H.D." cartouche over an U.S. Ordnance Cross-Cannon cartouche and it is fitted with a checkered, black plastic buttplate with the Winchester logo on the face. Length of pull is 13 1/2 inches. Includes a pre-WWI bayonet with leather sheath, and a tan canvas web sling.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of the original blue overall. Displaying general handling marks, mild surface scratches, and cycling marks on the magazine tube. The wood is very fine with clear markings, general handling marks, and a 1/8 inch dent on the under side of the stock behind the grip end. Mechanically excellent.
