Description:

This is an example of an especially rare model of a Stevens pistol, with fewer than 100 believed to have been manufactured circa 1875. The barrel is fitted with a German silver blade front sight with a sight notch on top of the hammer. The upper left barrel flat is marked with the two line Chicopee address/Sept. 6, 1864, patent date (note that most of the observed pistols lack maker markings). The top of the barrel also features a dovetail slot with a filler block in place. The matching serial number "15" is stamped on the left side of the barrel and the left side of the grip frame under the grip panel. The brass birds head frame has a circular side plate and smooth rosewood grips.

Rating Definition:

Fine as partially refinished (barrel). The barrel has aged to a mostly brown patina with soft edges at the round/octagon transition, marking polished slightly light, and some small pin point pitting. The frame has 75% of the original nickel finish with areas of edge wear, chipping and general handling marks. The grips are fine with general handling marks, a few light indentations and slight marring of the screws. The trigger spring may be worn or need cleaning as the hammer will not hold at cocked without manually pushing the trigger forward to engage the hammer.
