Manufactured between 1904 and 1922. The firm of Charles Boswell is well known for fine high quality sporting rifles and shotguns, and the firm continues to create some of the finest bespoke firearms. Boswell himself was a well known shooter in live pigeon competitions prior to its banning after World War I. The solid rib barrels are fitted with a ramped beaded blade and high visibility "poacher's bead" front and a five leaf (four folding one standing) rear express sight graduated to 500 meters on a matted and lightly engraved raised quarter rib. The quarter rib is also fitted with bases for a telescopic sight. The barrels are marked "CHARLES BOSWELL 126. STRAND. WC" and "CHAMBERED FOR 32/40 BORE KYNOCH SOFT NOSED OR COPPER BULLET & NITRO PROOVED" on the right and left respectively. The vibrantly casehardened box lock action features extensive English scroll engraving with a large lion on the right face and a red stag on the left. The water table has some faint British commercial proofs, and the underside and trigger guard feature more English scroll. Mounted on a multi-point checkered English walnut splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with an engraved steel grip cap, double triggers, tang mounted safety switch, sling swivels, blank silver initial oval, raised cheekpiece, and a solid rubber recoil pad. Includes a cloth covered Charles Boswell takedown case with a nickel finished oiler, two snap caps, four extra firing pins, a set of Talley scope rings, one box (20 round) of Remington Kleanbore 32-40 Win ammunition, and a key. The stock measurements are: Drop at comb 1 3/4 inches; Drop at heel 2 1/2 inches; 0 cast; 1/4 inch toe in; 14 1/2 inch length of pull.

Very fine as professionally restored with 99% of the blue on the barrels and 95% of the casehardened finish on the action. The barrels show some light surface scratches, general handling marks and some light muzzle wear. The action shows some light silvering along the edges, clear engravings, slightly softened edges and buffed light water table proofs. The wood is very fine as refreshed with sharp checkering, added recoil pad, attractive grain and figure and light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with some light edge wear, handling marks, and general storage marks.
