The Bull and the Bear bronze by Antoine-Louis Barye (French: 1796-1875). This classic animalier bronze depicts the dramatic battle between the Bull and the Bear with the outcome unknown. The bear is standing on his hind legs with front paws extending to defend himself from the charging head-down bull. The bronze rests on an black marble beveled plinth and is signed on the bronze plinth "BARYE." The bronze dimensions are approximately 23" L x 10 1/2" H x 8" W. The marble plinth is approximately 25" L x 11" W x 2" H. The bronze weighs approximately 63 lbs.

Very good overall. The bronze has a smooth dark patina with a white verdigris under the bear's right foot. The marble plinth has a high gloss finish.
