These revolvers were engraved and cased by Cogswell & Harrison Ltd., London, circa 1920. The revolvers have a commercial blue finish and color casehardened triggers, hammers and lanyard loops and are fitted with two-piece pearl grips. Both revolvers are decorated with identical English style engraving that features delicate scroll work on a stippled background. The level and quality of the engraving approximates Colt Grade B engraving. Both revolvers are stamped with the British crossed pennant proof mark on the left side of the frame and the rear face of the cylinder. Revolver B has a Broad Arrow property mark stamped below the crossed pennants. A Broad Arrow, "Crown/T9/E" Enfield inspection mark and "II" are stamped on the left side of both frames and outlined with hand engraved borders. Revolver A has "Crown/V" and "Crown/GP" London proof and inspection marks stamped over alternate cylinder chambers. The top of each barrel is roll-stamped with the S&W legend and 1901-1906 patent dates in two lines, and the left side of each barrel is roll-stamped: "SMITH & WESSON.455." The S&W monogram is roll-stamped on the right side plate of both revolvers. The lower right side of the frame on revolver A is stamped "NOT ENGLISH MADE." This mark is partially obliterated with zig-zag stampings. The right side of the barrel on revolver A is stamped with "Crown/V" and "Crown/GP" London proof and inspection marks followed by a "NP" nitro proof. Revolver A is stamped with the serial number "32916" on the butt, rear face of the cylinder and barrel. The assembly number "6187" is stamped on the inside of the frame and crane. Revolver B has the serial number "39488" stamped on the butt, rear face of the cylinder and bottom of the barrel and the assembly number "3851" stamped on the inside of the frame and crane. All the visible serial numbers on both revolvers match. The oak revolver case is 12 inches wide by 18 inches long and 3 3/4-inches deep with a removable upper tray. The lid and upper and lower trays are lined with green baize. A "COGSWELL & HARRISON LTD.,/GUN & RIFLE MAKERS" trade label is glued to the inside of the lid. The upper tray has compartments for both revolvers, a compartment with a top, and six open compartments. In addition to the revolvers, the upper tray contains a brass cleaning rod with turned ebony handle, a gold plated set of WWI Royal Flying Corps (RFC) pilot wings and a period cigarette lighter. The lower tray has nine compartments including four compartments for cartridges, two compartments with lids, and a cartridge block with 22 .455 cartridges. The lower compartment contains: (1) a partially filled carton of Dominion Cartridge Co., .455 cartridges, (2) 22 .455 cartridges, (3) two wire cleaning brushes, (4) four brass cleaning rod jags, and (5) a package of flannel patches. With the exception of the cleaning rod and cartridges, the accessories are not original to the casing.
