Description:

This "navy caliber" revolver was manufactured in Imperial Russia, likely at the Tula arsenal, based on Colt's Model 1851 Navy revolver. It has a more boxy appearance than the Colt, "S. COLT PATENT." on top of the barrel, a small post front sight, scooped recoil shields, a distinctly Russian style grip, and a lanyard ring on the butt. There are a few painted on inventory numbers on the grip straps as well as rubber "31" stickers on the butt and a Stagecoach Museum "494" inventory tag on the trigger guard. The gun and its inventory tag are seen on page 90 of "The Stagecoach Museum Gun Collection" by Saign, Donaldson, and Fiet. It is noted as "extremely rare."

Rating Definition:

Very good. There are traces of blue finish on the barrel and otherwise a dark blend of gray and brown patina and light pitting on the iron. The grip straps are fairly bright and have some aged patina. The grip is very good and has a few minor dents. It is mechanically fine.
