Description:

Both of these revolvers were manufactured by the London Armoury Company between 1856 and 1859 when Robert Adams left to form his own company. The Beaumont-Adams revolver was an improvement over Adams' original "self-cocking" design and featured a spurred hammer and combination double and single action system designed by Lieutenant Frederick E.B. Beaumont. The various Adams revolvers were the official British military sidearms from the 1850s until they were replaced by a similar cartridge revolver designed by his brother, John Adams, in 1867. The Adams designs are said to have been so popular that they were responsible for forcing Samuel Colt to close his London factory. These two feature dovetailed blade front sights, "H. HOLLAND. 98 NEW BOND ST. LONDON" on top of the barrel/top strap of gun A, "LONDON ARMOURY" on the top strap of B, integral notch rear sights, standard London proofmarks, "L.A.C" on the upper left barrel flat (London Armory Company) of gun A, matching serial numbers with Robert Adams' "R" suffix, and the "B" prefix serial numbers over the Adams marking on the frame (the number used to track royalties owned Lt. Beaumont). They come in an English fitted hardwood case with 19th century labels on the exterior (one has "CHAMBERLAIN" and "SOUTHAMPTON" visible), green baize interior lining, two cap tins, a few bullets, bullet mold, and a small powder flask.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with 70% plus original blue finish, brown patina and scattered mild oxidation visible on the balance, fairly bright loading lever, trigger, and hammer; crisp checkering with some residue in the recesses, and scattered minor marks and scratches throughout. It is mechanically excellent and has mostly crisp markings. The case is good with moderate overall wear, including some cracks and tears. The accessories are very good.
