The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .38-55 caliber and plain trigger when received in the warehouse on May 18, 1897, and shipped on July 24. Dovetailed blade and elevation adjustable sights, two-line address barrel marking followed by "38-55" at the breech, three-line model/trademark information on the upper tang, and serial number on the underside of the frame. Mounted on a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.
