Description:

These revolvers and their ammunition were designed by Daniel Moore and David Williamson as a work around the Rollin White patent held by Smith & Wesson that prevented other companies from legally manufacturing revolvers with bored through cylinders. These revolvers were manufactured from 1864 to 1870 by National Arms Co. While many have engraving, very few have anywhere close to this quality of embellishment. It has etched scrollwork on the barrel along with a gilded blade front sight and "NATIONAL ARMS Co. BROOKLYN, NY" marked on top, a detailed scene of a hunter pursuing a stag in a wooded scene etched on the cylinder which is also marked with the Williamson patent on the rear edge, intricate scroll and burst engraving patterns with textured backgrounds on the frame, casehardened small parts and otherwise gold plating throughout, and smooth grips. The grips are marked "HP50" on the back, and the same is stamped on the left side of the grip frame and back of the cylinder. The full serial number is on the bottom of the barrel. It comes in a French fitted case with a cleaning rod and three of the rare .32 caliber teat-fire cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 50% original gilt finish, crisp etching and engraving, gray and brown patina and some minor oxidation on the faded areas of the steel, attractive aged patina on the exposed brass, minor tension and age cracks in the grips (stable) along with attractive natural tones, and light marks and scratches. Mechanically fine. The case is good with minor storage wear and some minor cracks. The accessories are all very fine. This is easily one of the most ornate National Arms Co. revolvers extant.
