Description:

These revolvers and their unusual ammunition were designed by Daniel Moore and David Williamson as a work around the Rollin White patent held by Smith & Wesson and were manufactured from around 1864 to 1870. Total production is estimated to be around 30,000, and many have engraving on the frames. Very few, however, have this quality of engraving or etched cylinder scenes. This revolver has engraving accents on the muzzle, breech, and lug of the barrel; blade front sight and "MOORE'S PATENT FIRE ARMS Co. BROOKLYN, NY." on top of the barrel, "1056" on the bottom of the barrel, patent marking on the right side under the extractor, an etched scene with detailed background depicting a man on horseback lancing a bull and the Williamson patent marking on the cylinder, intricate scroll engraving with punch dot backgrounds on the silver plated frame, varnished walnut grips stamped "56", and "X56" on the left side of the grip frame.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with essentially all of the original silver plating remaining and displaying attractive aged patina, mostly gray and brown patina and distinct patterns and markings on the cylinder, strong original case colors on the hammer, 95% plus of the bright niter blue remaining on the extractor, traces of original blue finish on the barrel and otherwise mostly brown patina, some spots of light spotting and pitting, and 50% plus of the original varnish remaining on the grips which exhibit some light edge and handling wear. Mechanically excellent. This is a very attractive and unusual example of the Moore revolvers with fine embellishment.
