Description:

This is a very fine example of a WWII production (January 1945) Springfield Armory M1C Sniper rifle that is fitted with a Griffin & Howe M1C scope mount (non-matching, 3346970) with a late production M82 scope. The WWII M1C sniper rifles all fall within the generally accepted serial number range of "3,250,000 - 3,790,000" with this example being numbered "3451813". It is fitted with an original blued G&H scope mount correctly marked with the commercial factory markings on top with the serial number "3346970" stamped on the side. The scope base on the receiver itself is correctly numbered on the underside with serial number "3451813". The mount is fitted with an original Lyman M82 telescope marked on the scope body, "Telescope M82/SERIAL NUMBER NO. 32136/STOCK NO. 84374". The scope is fitted with the standard, standing post crosshair reticle used on M82 scopes, and it comes with an original rubber eye-piece. The rifle is currently fitted with the correct Springfield Armory barrel marked, "1-S A-5-45", and it is fitted with all the correct Springfield Armory marked WWII parts to include the late war wide base gas cylinder, front sight, round top gas cylinder lock and four slot gas plug. It has an all walnut stock and handguard set with the buttstock stamped on the left side with a "SA/NFR" cartouche followed by a cross-cannon final inspection proof. There is a single circle "P" proof in the pistol grip area. The stock is also fitted with a leather lace on cheek-piece that is marked with only "K-Line" on top. This rifle comes with a milled M2 marked SA flash hider and a green WWII "1944" dated web sling. This rifle is not one of the M1C rifles sold by the Director of Civilian Marksmanship in 1994; however, it appears to be an original WWII SA M1C rifle. It has the typical late war gray-green parkerized finish.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% of the arsenal gray/green parkerized finish overall with light wear on the edge and high spots with some minor finish loss on the right side receiver rail. The stock and handguards are all in excellent condition with nice distinct cartouches and proofs showing only minor handling marks on the sides in some areas with a larger heavier pressure dent/gouge directly on top of the heel of the stock. Mechanically excellent. The scope mount and scope retains 95% of its blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The optics are very clear with no specs inside and the rubber eyepiece complete.
