Description:

This is a very rare and certainly one of a kind late WWII M1A1 carbine that was produced by the Inland Division of General Motors and has a handwritten presentation inscription on the side of the stock from David Marshall (Carbine) Williams to a friend Donald Miller. The right side of the stock has been inscribed with the following: "To Donald Miller/From Carbine Williams Sept. 30-1968". Accompanying this carbine is a copy of a picture of Carbine Williams signing the carbine stock marked "to/Donald Miller/Every good wish/Carbine Williams/Dec. 29, 1964. The inscription was marked in the wood, with a ball-point pen and now the ink has evaporated away leaving only the marks in the wood. The actual carbine itself is a mid-WWII model manufactured in late 1943, that has been arsenal refurbished. The receiver ring is marked: "US CARBINE/CAL 30 M1" and INLAND DIV/2929382". The barrel is marked "INLAND MFG. DIV./GENERAL MOTORS/10-43". It has a low-wood stock with the folding buttplate has the correct cast in part number and leather cheek piece. The left side is stamped "AAM" for Augusta Arsenal, and a single uncircled "P" proof is on the pistol grip. The underside of the pistol grip is stamped with "R.I." indicating it is a Korean War replacement. It is still fitted with a type II barrel band, flat blued bolt, early smooth push button safety, late war underlined M magazine release. Two rivet handguard and a late war stamped adjustable rear sight. It comes with an olive green GI unmarked web sling. The magazine is marked "AI." This lot also includes 2 framed photos, 1 unframed, 1 hard cover book, 3 soft cover books and the "Carbine Williams" movie on DVD.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 95% of the dark green parkerized finish with edge and high spot wear with finish loss on the receiver rail and top areas of the bolt. The stock is in fine condition with light handling marks overall with slightly heavier one on the left front side and on the top handguard. The inscription is fine. Interesting M1 carbine worth doing some research on.
