Description:

This is a very rare example of a post war British Bren MkI that was manufactured in the Inglis factory in Canada, that is chambered in the seldom encountered "7.92 mm Mauser" cartridge. These are a very unique and interesting LMG as there is no clear history or rationale why they were ever manufactured and it is unclear as to how many were actually produced. These weapons are basically a sanitized/sterile weapon that has been noted in the serial number range of 1-5350 to 2-8050. they DO NOT have any proof or acceptance marks nor any manufacturers markings, which certainly gives rise to the theory that they were made for a "Secret CIA" and or foreign contract, that never materialized. Regardless the consignor noted that only "26" were actually imported by the Interarms Corporation in late 1963 with all of them being in the same like new and unmarked condition as this example is. It should be remembered that at this time in the world there were still several countries in Europe and the Middle East (e.g. Israel) that were still using weapons firing the original 7.92 Mauser cartridge. It is our understanding that the last one of these weapons was eventually sold in late 1966. Notwithstanding the fact that approximately "26" were imported, it is "impossible" to even locate one of these for sale today! It should be noted that these are not reworked WWII .303 British caliber LMGs, however instead they are brand new manufacture with the bolts and internal mechanism designed to fire the 7.92 mm Mauser cartridge. This example has a late dark gray parkerized finish with the dark colored walnut buttstock and pistol grip. The side of the receiver is only marked "7.92 BREN Mk. I". It has all matching serial numbers "2-3022" on the top rear area of the receiver, the top rear end of the trigger housing, the barrel locking lever and the left side of the barrel. It also comes with the original matching "spare barrel" correctly numbered on the left side "2-3022 S" with the "S" indicating this is the spare barrel. The top, rear section of frame extension (directly under the breech end of the barrel) is also stamped with a small assembly/contract number of "12366" and the lower left edge/rail of the trigger housing is panagraphed "200 1" under the parkerized finish. The bolt and operating rod assembly is all in the white as it left the factory. Included with the lot is an original, as new small metal storage chest that contains ten, new (20 shot) Bren magazines. This lot also comes with a British khaki colored spare barrel bag, (with no makers marks or proofs) that contains a spare bolt assembly (7.92 mm), small cleaning kit, and field tools. Also included is a second/separate field cleaning kit that contains, an oiler bottle, bore brush wooden cleaning rod with its small khaki pouch, and an additional spare barrel bag. All stored in an unmarked/sterile small cardboard shipping box.

Rating Definition:

Near mint with 99% of the dark gray parkerized finish overall showing only minor light wear. The bolt and op-rods still in the white as noted above and it appears to maybe have been test fired at best. The wood components are also in like new condition with only very light handling marks in a couple places. The various accessories, spare parts, canvas bags and magazines are all in near mint condition. This is just a super example of a very scarce Canadian/Inglis Bren Mk.I LMG. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
