Desirable U.S. Springfield Armory M1C Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle with USMC G&H Mount and First Pattern MC-1 Type Kollmorgen Sniper Scope

This is an exceptional example of a late WWII Springfield Armory M1C sniper rifle that was arsenal refurbished for Korea and is now fitted with a second pattern Stith-Kollmorgen MC-1 USMC sniper scope with the larger Griffin & Howe scope mount. The M1C sniper was develop in mid-late 1944 and was used throughout WWII, Korea and into Vietnam by both the Army and Marines. After Korea, the USMC developed the larger model Stith/Kollmorgen 4x scope and larger G&H mount and designated it as the "MC-1" sniper rifle. This is a late WWII rifle that was rebuilt for Korea which has a mix of WWII and later post war SA marked parts. It is fitted with a WWII barrel marked "1-S-A-X (unreadable)-45" with the breech parkerized. It has a post war operating rod marked "D6535382-SA", bolt marked "D28287-12-SA", "W.R.A. marked trigger housing and hammer, with an unmarked safety and milled trigger guard. The internal parts are also unmarked. It has a post-war rear sight assembly marked "DRC" with a wide base gas cylinder, round top gas cylinder lock and a "O" stamped, four slot gas plug. The receiver is fitted with a parkerized G&H type scope base (bracket) that has been renumbered (matching) on the side (not underneath) with "351 2160". As noted, this rifle has the MC-1 type G&H scope mount with the company address and patent dates on the top flat area with the flat locking levers. It is fitted with a first pattern Stith/Kollmorgen 4x power scope that is rolled marked on the rear eye-piece with "TELESCOPE 4XD MC-1/KOLLMORGEN OPTICAL CORP." and it has the standard fine cross-hair reticle. The top of the tube is roll marked "MC 1289-P". The telescope comes with a set of "Storm-Queen" marked rubber lens covers. The rifle is fitted with an walnut stock and handguard set, with a single circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area with no other proofs. It is fitted with a lace on leather cheek pad marked on the side "MRT/1 52". The rifle includes an Korean War era web sling ink stamped "MRT/XX" and an original Hart manufactured M2 flash hider. The majority of the M1C sniper rifles originally manufactured by Springfield Armory were rebuilt for the Korean conflict, with a considerable number destroyed by the Army during the 1980s.

ConditionVery fine as arsenal rebuilt with a medium gray parkerized finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The stock and handguards are also in very fine condition showing some minor handling marks on the sides with a couple heavier pressure dents on the upper sides of the stock. The G&H mount is in very fine condition with 95% of its parkerized finish overall with clear sharp factory markings. The MC-1 scope retains 98% of its original black baked on metal finish with clear optics. A very attractive U.S. Springfield Armory M1C sniper rifle with an early USMC MC-1 scope mount and scope.
