Description:

This is an example of a WWII Nazi Kampfpistole as manufactured by the Erma factory. The Leuchtpistole (single barrel, break-open flare pistol) design was originally developed by the Walther company in 1936, with several thousands eventually manufactured by the Walther, Berlin-Lubeker and Erma factories during WWII. This Kampfpistole design was actually based on the original Leuchtpistole (flare pistols) design, only they were intended to be used as both a signaling flare pistol and an "anti-personal" weapon, as they were fitted with a unique rifled barrel that could shoot a 25mm rifle grenade. The same type of round that was used in the K98 service rifle grenade launchers. When used in the "Kampfpistole" role it was fitted with a folding, sheet metal stock assembly, equipped with a beige butt pad and a spring-loaded, barrel mounted, high angle aiming sight. The stock attachment was held in place on the rear of the frame/grip area via a threaded cross-bolt with two additional locking screws. A wide opening allows the user access to the weapon's hammer. The left side of the barrel is engraved with the large letter "Z" which was filled with luminous paint, to identify this model as having the rifled bore. The left side of the frame is marked with a "ayf 42" code indicating it was manufactured in 1942 by the ERMA factory. The right side of the frame and barrel are both stamped with the double "Eagle 280" Waffenamt proofs along with a single "Eagle" firing proof, and the frame and barrel are both stamped with the matching serial number "6676". A curved locking lever opens the spring-assisted barrel that also serves as part of the front of the trigger guard bow. This example has an all black anodized finished with the desirable rifled aluminum barrel and checkered Bakelite grips, while the stock and barrel sight are painted in a light brown, sand/desert color overall. This example does not have the very rare round side mounted aiming sight. This weapon was soon outclassed by the more modern anti-tank rifles, the Panzerfaust and the Panzerschreck.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% of the black anodized exterior finish overall on the pistol, with considerable black finish loss on the edges and high spot as well as the upper areas of the barrel and receiver and the lower rear area of the back strap. The stock assembly and barrel mounted sight retain 85% of its desert tan painted exterior finish overall with paint loss on the edges and high spots overall. A scarce example of a rare Kampfpistole.
