Description:

This is a very fine example of a WWI Imperial German Artillery Luger Rig. The top of the barrel extension is dated "1917," and the toggle is marked "DWM" for Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken. The right side of the barrel extension has the three crown over script letter proofs next to the "Imperial Eagle" proof. The front of the frame is stamped with the full serial number as well as the barrel and barrel extension. The underside of the barrel has the serial number/letter suffix and bore diameter of "8,82." It is correctly marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" on the safety and extractor. All the visible small components are marked with a "11". The sear bar, safety lever, trigger and takedown lever are straw colored. The sights are the correct inverted front and the tangent rear that is graduated from 100-800 meters. It has a set of unnumbered checkered walnut grips and comes with a tin-plated WWI type magazine with a wooden base that is stamped with only "9511/I" and no other markings. It has a correct artillery type brown leather holster with no visible markings that is complete with the shoulder straps and is attached to an original wooden board stock which is correctly numbered to the pistol. The holster has a wood handled cleaning rod and takedown tool. Correct matching rigs are seldom encountered.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish overall with thinning on the grip straps. 50% plus of the original straw colors remain, showing fading overall. The grips are excellent with nice distinct checkering showing even honest wear on the tops of the checkering mixed with some handling marks on the sides. The board stock has an original oil finish showing scratches and handling marks on the exposed side with 75% of the blued finish on the attaching iron, which shows some light erosion on the exposed metal and blue loss on the front end. The holster is in fine condition with a reddish cordovan color on the outside of the holster showing light wear and scuffing on the outside and mostly tight stitching except for the flap which has come lose. The straps and stock boot are also in fine condition overall showing honest wear and age cracking overall.
