Description:

According to the included factory letter, this handgun was shipped as a single piece to Henry D. Block by way of the NRA Service Company (address "unavailable" for both parties) on February 27, 1930, as a Super 38 with a blue finish and "Not Listed" grips. Active from about 1927 to 1935, the NRA Service Company was a venture by the National Rifle Association to sell shooting supplies and NRA memorabilia to members, including weapon accessories and firearms. The company maintained offices in both Washington, D.C., and Dallas, Texas. Henry Block has not been positively identified, but the business model of the Service Company all but ensures that he was a member of the NRA. Fixed sights, the two-line address and patent dates on the left side of the slide, the caliber markings on the right, matching serial number stamped around the firing pin hole, a short milled trigger, arched checkered mainspring housing, and checkered grips. "Henry D. Block" is inscribed on the right side of the slide between the serrations and caliber marking. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped "1/VP", and "60" is on the right.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 60% of the original blue finish, showing a number of takedown lines, bright edge wear, areas of brown patina, scattered spotting and handling marks. The inscription is professionally executed but is not listed in the letter. The revarnished grips are good, with some dents and scuffs. Mechanically excellent.
