Spectacular Joseph Jakob of Philadelphia "Purdey of America" Double Barrel Boxlock Hammerless Two Barrel Set Rifle in 45-70/40-65 with Case

Comes with two solid rib barrels numbered to the gun, fitted with a fixed notched rear sight, low blade front sight with flip up moon, and extractor, have "S" marks indicting manufactured in Suhl, and are marked "JOSEPH JAKOB" and "No. 1156 PASSYUNK AVE. PHILADELPHIA" on top. The boxlock action features cocking indicators, an attractive border and scroll engraving, and "JOSEPH JAKOB" on both sides. The scrollwork extends to the break lever, trigger guard, and forearm hardware. The action features double triggers and automatic tang safety. The nicely figured forearm and round knob pistol grip buttstock feature an elaborate monogram (cannot decipher) branded on the tear drop flats and checkered hard rubber buttplate. Weight: 9 lbs. 6 oz. Philadelphia gunmaker Joseph Jakob is believed to have been around for about a decade at his Passyunk Avenue shop, circa 1870 to 1880. His guns were of the highest quality and only a small number of his works are known to have survived. The quality of his guns has earned him the nickname "Purdey of America." The leather bound oak takedown case holds both barrels.

ConditionExcellent. The receiver retains 98% of the vivid original case colors. The barrels retain 97% plus of the original brown finish. The excellent wood shows some scattered minor dings and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with some minor handling/storage marks.
