Manufactured in 1892. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .45-90 caliber, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock with oil finish and shotgun buttplate, half magazine, Lyman rear and beaded knife blade front sight ("same as Rocky Mountain front sight, flat top sporting rear 'U' notch sight"). The elevation adjustable rear sight is unusual in that the sight aperture is a large square block with "U" notch and two silver inlaid sight lines. The dovetailed Lyman front sight has a sighting bead. There is a tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 WCF" at the breech. The lower tang has the two-line patent dates marking and the serial number. The highly figured and checkered stock has an ebony insert on the bottom of the pistol grip. "486S XXX" is marked on the left side of the lower tang, "486" is marked on the stock inlet, and "486" is marked on the back of the steel shotgun buttplate.
