Description:

Manufactured in 1891 The Cody Museum records search form states the serial number was applied on 2-11-1891 and verifies the rifle configuration, 45/70 caliber, round barrel, plain trigger and that it was shipped to order number 13307 on October 10, 1891. The barrel has a standard sporting style front sight with nickel-silver blade and a semi buckhorn rear sight. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address and "45-70" at the breech. The upper tang is fitted with a mid range peep sight covering the upper tang marking, and the serial number is marked on the lower tang as well as the 1884 and 1885 patent dates. Blue barrel and magazine tube, and casehardened remaining metal surfaces. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. Sling swivels are non-factory mounted on the forend cap and stock.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 99% restored blue finish remaining, showing some light pitting under the finish on the barrel and magazine tube band. 70% of the vivid case colors remain on the receiver, hammer and lever, while the buttplate has a smooth mottled gray patina. There is some minor pitting on the upper left side of the receiver. The wood is also very fine with 70% of the varnish remaining, and showing a few minor dents, a sliver of wood missing on upper tang at frame juncture, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
