Description:

Manufactured in 1882 as a second model featuring a dust cover guide rail attached to the top of the receiver by two screws and a dust cover with rear serrations. The accompanying factory letter (dated 1961) lists this Model 1876 as a carbine in .45-60 caliber when it was shipped on January 27, 1882. Blade front and fixed notch rear sights on a barrel marked with the two-line address/patent dates and "CAL/45-60." A saddle ring is attached to the left side of the receiver. Mounted on a Model 1876 carbine forearm and buttstock.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The carbine has a mottled brown-gray patina mixed with minor pitting. The sights are period replacements. The heavily weathered wood has a few cracks and numerous dents and dings overall. Mechanically fine.
