According to the included assessment, this is a fine reproduction of an 1820s vintage Russian cavalry sword, likely manufactured in the 21st century, and possibly by a shop in the vicinity of St. Petersburg. Measuring 39 1/2 inches overall with a 33 7/8 inch curved, single fuller blade. On each side of the blade is a 13 3/4 inch panel of etched decoration and gold and niter blue highlighting with scroll designs on both sides, an "A" (Tsar Alexander I, reign 1801-1825) on the right, a two-headed eagle on the left, and scenes of a French cavalryman being driven off by a pack of Russians on each side. The gold work is believed to be modern electro-deposition gilding, as opposed to 19th century mercury-based gilt work. The spine is decorated in a similar fashion with the date "1824" and Cyrillic markings. The translation of these markings is "I. Bushuyev, Zlatoust" in the style of Ivan Bushuyev, the originator of the engraving style used at the arsenal at Zlatoust (located in what is currently the Chelyabinsk region of Russia), one of Russia's first producers of cannon-quality steel, a key source of quality blades in the 1800s, birthplace of the rediscovered "Bulat" (Russia's answer to European Damascus steel) and a heartland of fine weaponry to this day. Some mild spotting and handling marks are present on the blade which is otherwise very fine with over 90% of the original gold wash and niter blue finish, some minor dings and chipping of the edge and tip, and some minor pitting concentrated on the spine. The hilt is in very fine condition with some high edge wear. An appropriate number of dents and scuffs are present on the sheath.
