Scarce Simeon North U.S. Contract Model 1833 Hall Breech Loading Percussion Carbine with Sliding Bayonet

The Model 1833 is historically significant as the first percussion firearm adopted by the U.S. Government and also the first U.S. martial arm to employ an underbarrel bayonet that slides into the ramrod channel. 1,028 were manufactured in .58 caliber in 1834, and 6,135 were manufactured in .52 caliber in 1836-1839. This one comes from the final year of production and has standard markings and features. The Model 1833 was initially primarily used in conflicts with Native Americans in the Arkansas Territory and Florida, and some remained in use during the Civil War.

ConditionFair with a blend of gray and brown patina and mild pitting along most of the metal, general marks and scratches including some heavier strike type marks, heavily sanded and revarnished stock with numerous dings and scrapes and some small chips, legible cartouche, and "XIV" carved in the top of the comb by the buttplate. Mechanically fine.
