Description:

The DWM Luger Carbine was intended as a substitute for the light hunting rifles then available on the market, being highly compact when disassembled and light and easy to maneuver when together. This particular Carbine comes with a letter from a former owner, which identifies the item by serial number to Hinderikus "Henk" Lucas Visser. Born and raised in Holland, Visser acquired his first automatic weapon by stealing it from the Nazis, barely dodging a death sentence for sabotage in the process. During this time he technically made his entry into the arms trade, manufacturing ammunition components in a forced labor camp and nearly dying of tuberculosis in the process. After the war he entered the arms business properly, being involved in the development of the CETME rifle (aka the H&K G3), the Stoner 63, and other projects, while both continuing his own collecting and coordinating with European museums to restore historical firearms. His items can be seen in a number of books, including "Handguns of the World" and Nelson's books on submachine guns and machine pistols. Ramp blade front and 300-meter sliding notch rear sights, with the "DWM" monogram on the toggle, "crown" proofs on multiple parts, and matching numbers on the majority of the parts. No import markings (either the classic "GERMANY" or the later style name and address) or non-German proofs are visible. Fitted with a checkered Schnabel tip forearm with integral booster spring, a pair of checkered grips, nickel finished magazine with unmarked wood base, and an unnumbered detachable shoulder stock with a checkered wrist and a serrated horn buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 98% plus of the original blue finish, showing an extremely light ding on the right side of the frame just above the trigger, bright cycling marks on the frame lugs and minimal handling marks overall. Straw colors are original 95% and remain. The furniture is in equal exceptional original condition, with a few tiny dings on the checkering and a small absence in the toe of the buttplate. Mechanically excellent. A top-rate Luger Carbine in excellent original condition, attributed to an important collection.
