This is a beautiful example of an engraved Walther PPK semi-automatic pistol. The pistol has been highly engraved with the traditional, deep chiseled, relief Germanic oak leaf and acorn type engraving mixed with a geometric border. The engraving covers over 98% of the pistol. This pattern is very similar to several of the special order engraved Walthers shown in "Walther Volume II, Engraved, Presentation and Standard Walther Pistols" by Rankin. The serial number is stamped on the right side of the frame, with the last three digits, "980", correctly scratched on the inside of the slide. The slide is only marked with a single "Walther" banner on the left side of the slide with no other markings or proof marks, indicating that this pistol was pulled directly from the production line in an unfinished state, completely engraved and then blued and assembled. It has the standard front and rear sights, with the 60 degree safety. It is complete with a Walther marked magazine that has a brown plastic finger extension base plate, along with a set of original early production mottled, brown plastic, checkered grips. With a copy of a signed and notarized letter from James Rankin, author of the above-named book and other Walther texts, which calls out some of the prominent features of the pistol, especially the centrally-located Walther banner on the slide and the repositioned serial number. Additionally, the engraving is explicitly stated to be factory work and noted as being "exceptional".

Very fine, with 98% of the blue finish overall with only a hint of edge and high spot wear overall. The plastic grips are also in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering and markings overall and some minor age cracks just starting to show around the grip screws. The grip screw is oversized. These grips show slightly more of the warpage on the lower front edges which was a very common problem with these early style grips. Overall, this an attractive example of an engraved Walther PPK pistol.
