Originally manufactured in 1917 and later embellished by renowned Master Engraver Alvin White. White signed his masterpiece "A.A. White Eng" on the left side of the interior left grip frame. An accompanying R.L. Wilson letter indicates that Wilson commissioned this pistol "as a Christmas present for his then-faithful wife" (Charlotte), the case was made by noted bookbinder Arno Werner, White carved the grips that have 24 karat gold Rampant Colt inlays, and the Colt factory performed the bluing and reassembly. According to Wilson, "Very few .25 Automatic Colts have been done by Alvin White…probably not more than three or four." Consignor research is included. The profusely foliate scroll engraved pistol features 18 karat flush gold inlaid serial number and Rampant Colt, intertwined "CW" low relief initials in 18 karat gold within an oval panel, and a high relief ladybug in 24 karat gold. The magazine base is also engraved. The leather case is tooled in gold and has the inscription "TO/CHARLOTTE FROM LARRY/CHRISTMAS 1975" on the lid exterior.
