Description:

Manufactured by Mauser for the Italian government for delivery in 1899, these early pattern Broomhandles were subjected to rough use through both of the World Wars, leaving few high condition examples. This pistol has all the early features such as: 1) the flat side frame, 2) early large ring hammer, 3) the early style bolt with the long extractor, and 4) old style safety. It has the correct "DV" acceptance proof on the left side of the chamber area, with the underside of the barrel showing three Gothic letter proofs, and the underside flat of the frame bearing the "Crown/AV" Italian acceptance proof. The top of the chamber area is marked: "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N", with a fixed front sight and an adjustable rear sight marked "1-10" (100-1,000 meters). It is fitted with a matching set of 23 groove walnut grips, and the butt of the frame has a lanyard stud and loop.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 95% of the professionally restored blue finish, showing some bright edge wear, a few small areas of brown patina, and mild handling marks. The slightly undersize matching number grips are very good as refinished, with some flattening on the bottom, dings and scuffs. Mechanically excellent.
