Description:

Manufactured in limited numbers during the First World War, the Model 6 was Walther's first move into the full-size military pistol market. In overall design the Model 6 shows a very strong mechanical resemblance to Walther's vest pocket guns, while also meriting comparison to the Fabrique Nationale product of the time as well as later developments by Star with full-power straight blowback semi-automatic military pistols. Blade front and notch rear sights, with the left side of the slide marked "Selbstlade-Pistole Cal.9m/m. Walther's-Patent." over the Walther banner ahead of a small "GERMANY" export stamp and the early one-line address "Carl Walther, Waffenfabrik, Zella St. Bl." on the right. Zella-St. Blasii was one of the communities merged together to form Zella-Mehlis in 1919, which would remain Walther's headquarters until the post-WWII Soviet occupation. Equipped with an external extractor, and combination thumb safety/slide stop. The back strap is stamped "O.Lt. K.Demmler" above a hand-scratched "Thompson"; no information on either party was supplied, but Oberleutnant Demmler may have been the original owner of the pistol, and Thompson the AEF soldier who found and/or captured the pistol.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% of the faded original blue finish, showing bright edge wear, a few areas of brown patina, and scattered mild spotting and handling marks. The faded grips are very good, with some age cracks and scuffs. The magazine is a replacement, using the body of a P-38 magazine reshaped and fitted with an appropriate floorplate. Mechanically fine.
