Description:

Manufactured in 1904, with a "RIA/5-05" marked barrel, the standard four-line address over the serial number on the receiver ring, single vent hole, and an early pattern un-canted bolt. Nearly all elements of the early U.S. 1903 rifle were the subject of later overhaul and revision, especially the early barrels, which were often discarded and replaced with ones chambered for 30-06. The straight wrist stock is fitted with a single reinforcing bolt, stamped "S" on the tip, faint cartouche on the left side, a brown leather sling and a smooth buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good, as arsenal upgraded, showing extensive areas of mixed brown and gray patina, a number of scuffs and dings concentrated on the front sight, pitting on the front barrel band, and handling marks overall. The bolt and receiver have turned a mixed gray, with traces of the original pattern and mild wear and spotting. The sanded, refinished stock is also good, with dents and scuffs. Mechanically excellent.
