Description:

Manufactured in 1957 and subsequently embellished and inscribed by Master Engraver Franz Marktl, who has signed his work "F. MARKTL" on the underside of the frame. An engraved oak leaf motif is featured on the barrel, cylinder flats, frame sides and trigger guard. The butt is engraved "N.P.D. 2675." The frame is engraved with an image of Lady Justice on the left side and an inscription which reads "DEPUTY/UNITED STATES/MARSHAL" on the right side. "James D. Morris" is engraved on the back strap in script. Accompanying this lot are official U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Marshal documents confirming that this revolver was used by Morris. These documents identify the revolver by model and serial number, confirm Morris used the revolver while on official duty and are the following: 1) a Morris signed Department of Justice memorandum dated September 6, 1973, authorizing Morris the use of this revolver while on duty with certain detailed restrictions (original) and 2) U.S. Marshals weapons qualification form dated July 16, 1973, which lists this revolver as Morris' personally owned weapon approved for official use (copy). Other documents related to Morris include: a November 6, 1973, dated recommendation for Morris to receive a promotion and Morris' January 17, 1973 memo relating an incident with a juror during the G. Gordon Liddy trial which was connected to the famed Watergate scandal. Also includes a letter from R.L. Wilson that confirms the aforementioned provenance.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine as custom embellished by Master Engraver Franz Marktl. The revolver retains 98% of the nickel plating showing some flaking on the back strap. The grips are very fine showing typical hairline age cracking towards the bottoms. Mechanically excellent.
