The included Colt factory letter confirms the serial number, finish, 1/8 inch front sight, wide spur hammer, and December 20, 1955, date of shipment to Joseph A. Lorch of Washington, D.C. as part of a six gun order. Lorch was Colt's Washington representative and handled orders for a number of federal government agencies. The letter also states that the revolver was originally shipped with a 6 inch barrel, indicating that the 4 inch heavy bull barrel with "BORDER PATROL" roll mark was installed at a later time, possibly by the factory. With standard frame markings, serrated trigger, wide checkered hammer, and checkered grips with the Rampant Colt molded at the tops.

Very fine as altered with 90% plus original blue finish remaining, some mild edge wear, small surface scratches, and handling marks. The replacement grips are very fine with some small dings, sharp checkering, and a small gap visible at the top of the left panel. Mechanically excellent.
