Description:

This is an example of a highly sought after Colt Single Action Army revolver that is chambered for the .44 rimfire cartridge and has and early three digit serial number ("820"). Only 1,863 Single Action Army revolvers were chambered in this caliber. The .44 rimfire series was introduced in 1875, and they were serial numbered in their own range from 1 to 1,863. Colt sold most of the .44 RF production to banana republics in South and Central America due to a limited acceptance on the American market where they saw hard and abusive use. Surviving examples are rare. The barrel has the one-line Hartford address on top, and the frame has the patent date (only the 1872 date visible) stamped on the left side. The ejector rod has a bullseye head. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, renumbered back strap, barrel, and cylinder.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The revolver has a mixture of both artificial and mottled gray patina with extensive pitting throughout. The shrunken grip is good with age cracking overall and a sizeable filled repair on the left side. Mechanically excellent. A very rare variation of the SAA in any condition.
