Manufactured in 1898. The barrel is marked with the two-line Hartford address on top and "COLT. D.A. 38" on the left side. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking followed by a circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is stamped on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Fitted with checkered Rampant Colt embossed bird head grips. The Colt factory picture box is correct for a Model 1877 Lightning revolver with a 3 1/2 inch barrel. The top of the box has the illustrated label.

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% original blue finish with the balance thinning to a brown. The frame retains nearly 97% vivid original case colors. The grips are also excellent with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is very fine with a couple minor tears and a couple split lid corners with an incomplete end label. Most of the picture label remains. A high conditioned example of an antique Colt Sheriff's Model 1877 Revolver with period factory picture box makes for a perfect addition to any early Colt double action revolver collection.
