Description:

This is a highly sought after Colt Single Action Army revolver that is chambered for the .44 rimfire cartridge. Only 1,863 Single Action Army revolvers were chambered in this caliber. The .44 rimfire series was introduced in 1875, and they were serial numbered in their own range from 1 to 1,863. Colt sold most of the .44 RF production to obscure banana republics in South and Central America due to a limited acceptance on the American market where they saw hard and abusive use. Surviving examples are rare. The barrel has the one-line Hartford address on top and a small "44" on the underside, the frame has the two-line, two patent dates on the left side, the Colt inspector "C" stamp is marked in the rimfire hammer slot, and "44 CAL" is marked on the left side of the trigger guard. The ejector rod has a bullseye head. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, barrel, and cylinder. The "0" in the frame serial number has been factory struck over a "1." The grip features "Old BEtS/1889" carved on the left side. Comes with an unmarked leather Slim Jim style holster.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 70% period Colt retailer applied nickel plating with the balance a smooth gray patina. The hammer retains patterns of case colors with the balance mostly a dark silver gray patina. Tool-like marks are present on top right side of the back strap. The grip is fine with rounded high edges and some minor handling evidence. The action needs work as the hammer retracts but the cylinder does not lock. The holster is good with the original belt loop and flap removed and cut for a belt on the back.
