This highly embellished Francotte double features numbered Whitworth steel barrels with a single bead sight on the concave matte rib, barrels marked "VON. LENGERKE & DETMOLD/U.S. AGENTS NEW-YORK" on the right and left respectively, 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors, standard markings and proofs on the flats, and full chokes. The masterfully executed, chiseled, high relief engraving starts with 4 inch wedges on the barrels forward of the breech, and continues to the receiver and lock plates, which are fully engraved in flowing floral and scroll patterns with a combination of polished and bright nitre blue lock pins, cocking indicators, standard proofs and maker's marks on the water table, "A. FRANCOTTE" marked on the underside, cross bolt third fastener, matching engraved trigger guard and tangs, dual triggers, and automatic tang safety. The trigger plate is signed "H. LEUKERS LIEGE" to the right of the trigger. Leukers was recognized as a Belgian master engraver and was responsible for presenting twenty three engraving designs at the Paris exhibition of 1937. Finely checkered splinter forearm with engraved fittings, Anson latch, and pistol grip stock with tear drop flats, horn grip cap, gold initial oval inscribed "WAJ", and checkered horn buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech proved and measured at 18.5mm (.729 inch); bore constriction .037((full)/.033(full); minimum wall thickness .028/.029 inch; drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 2 1/2 inches; length of pull 14 1/2 inches.

Excellent. 97% blue finish remains on the barrels with sharp engraving, well-defined markings, some light edge wear, and a few small scratches. The receiver and locks have an overall brushed finish with bright original nitre blue pins, sharp engraving and markings, and light handling marks mostly on the trigger guard. The wood is also fine with crisp checkering, small dings, and a small chip on the buttplate. Mechanically excellent. One of the finest Francotte's we have ever offered.
