Description:

Also known as Remington's Model 95 Double Derringers, these handy two-shot pocket pistols are classic western arms and have been well-represented in western films, often hidden up a gambler's sleeve along with an extra ace or in his vest pocket or boot or sometimes carried by local ladies in distress. These pistols were designed for concealed carry and were certainly ideal for individuals out about town in the West or gambling were being openly armed was either banned or at least frowned upon. The Type II derringers were manufactured by Remington from 1888-1911 with "REMINGTON ARMS CO., ILION, N.Y." marked on the barrel rib. The serial number was taken from the bottom of the barrel (grip screw stuck). Though the serial number is rather low, determining the approximate age is not possible because Remington restarted the serial numbers during production multiple times. It has a primarily nickel plated finish with niter blue small parts and a pair of very attractive pearl grips. An S.D. Myers of El Paso russet leather ankle holster with two straps is included. Myers moved to El Paso in 1920.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% plus original nickel plating, some flaking on the left under the extractor, strong patches of original niter blue on the small parts, mild scratches and marks consistent with a carry gun. The grips have mild wear, some slight flakes/chips at the edges, and very nice natural iridescence. Mechanically fine. The holster is very good and has mild overall wear. A solid example of one of the West's most famous pocket guns complete with an uncommon holster. Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
