Manufactured in 1878. The desirable 3 1/2 inch barrel features the etched caliber marking on the left side and stamped two-line Hartford address on top. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking. "38 CAL" is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard. Fitted with sought after checkered rosewood grip. Comes with a correct period factory picture box of a 3 1/2 inch Lightning.

Fine. 40% original blue finish remains and some original case colors remain in and around the protected areas with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. The etched caliber panel is legible. The moderately worn grip is very good with a couple small chips at the toe, high edge wear and overall crisp checkering. The box is fair with much of the picture label remaining. Mechanically fine.
