Description:

Beautiful silver mounted and embellished French flintlock cane rifle. Carved dog's head motif detachable cane handle relief carved buttstock, a traditional detachable buttstock, and ferrule with brass tip (cracked). Scenic deep relief chiseled breech, trigger guard, and detachable buttstocks. Gilt frizzen pan. Lock engraved "Chasteau a Paris". Fine groove rifling. Bordered checkering in the wood. Early 19th century French silver hallmarks on the buttplate. To load, first remove the ferrule by pulling it out. Then unscrew the barrel from the breech, which reveals a 3.25 inch barrel for packing in powder, patch and ball. Provenance: The Larry Mattson Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine with some light scattered light pitting on the barrel and areas of the lock, and crisp relief carving. Wood is fine overall with some dents and scratches, a few very light cracks at the wrist of the standard buttstock, and a well-defined dog's head. Mechanically fine.
