Dating to circa 1820, this Birmingham-made blunderbuss has a round three-stage brass barrel with full length iron spring bayonet above, turned slightly belled muzzle and is signed “LONDON” and marked with post-1813 Birmingham proofs at the left of the breech. The iron barrel tang is fitted with the sliding bayonet release catch, and the flat bevelled lock is signed “TWIGG” and has an engraved stepped tail and roller frizzen. Floral and border engraving at the breech, lock, screws, trigger guard bow, rear of the lower tang, and buttplate tang. Britannia shield engraved on the buttplate tang. 12 5/8 inch folding "snap" bayonet. Walnut stock is fitted with brass mounts including trigger guard with acorn finial, and a horn ramrod with iron worm is housed beneath the forearm. The bore is estimated above and flares to about 1 1/4 inch at the muzzle.
