U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1795 Type II Flintlock Musket Dated 1805 with Bayonet

This 1805 dated Harpers Ferry Model 1795 musket is likely included as part of approximately 282 manufactured by Harpers Ferry in the second half of the year 1806 due to a brief halting of production on Model 1795 muskets starting partway through the year 1804 in order to manufacture Model 1803 rifles. The lock plate of this example is marked "HARPERS/FERRY/1805" vertically at the rear, with a large shield bearing eagle over "US" at the center. Faint remnants of two sunken oval proofs are on the upper left quarter at the rear of the barrel. Bayonet lug on top of the barrel towards the muzzle. Sling swivels on the middle band and ahead of the trigger guard. "GDM" (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes socket bayonet and period leather sling. Provenance: The George Moller Collection

ConditionFair with scattered moderate pitting overall and a three inch crack visible on the right side of the middle of the barrel. Stock is also fair as sanded and re-oiled with numerous chips and absent sections along the barrel channel, a nine inch repaired and spliced section behind the middle barrel band, some chips around the lock, a crack ahead of the trigger guard finial, and slightly undersized around various edges. Mechanically fine. Included bayonet is very good with some scattered patches of mild pitting, sling is also very good with cracking and age related wear.
