Extremely Early Production Two Digit Serialized Civil War Era Smith & Wesson No. 2 "Old Army" Revolver with Two Pin Top Strap

This S&W No. 2 Old Army revolver manufactured in 1861 has two pins (as apposed to three pins in later production) in the top strap and the extremely low serial number, 32. Many of the No. 2s in this early range saw hard use during the Civil War, but this example is extremely fine. Serial no. 32 is on the butt as well as on the right grip panel. Matching assembly numbers are on the grip frame, barrel and cylinder. The barrel rib has the early one-line Springfield address. This cataloger, a student of S&W revolvers for almost 40 years, has never seen a two-digit serial number Model 2 Army that even remotely comes close to the high condition of this revolver.

ConditionExceptionally fine, retaining 90% plus original blue finish with thinning to brown and some light spotting on the balance. The grips are fine with minor dings and scratches, slight high edge wear and most of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. A high condition, extremely early production S&W No. 2 Army Revolver, serial number 32, that will make a fine addition to any S&W or Civil War collection.
