Ohio Marked 1815 Dated U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1795 Type III Flintlock Musket with Bayonet

Approximately 5,340 of these muskets were manufactured by Harpers Ferry in the year 1815. The lock plate is marked "HARPERS/FERRY/815" (the first 1 is absent) vertically at the rear, with the shield bearing "eagle/US" at the center. "OHIO" ahead of two proofs marked at the left of the breech. Bayonet lug below the barrel towards the muzzle, brass blade front sight on the rear strap of the front barrel band. Sling swivels on the middle band and ahead of the trigger guard. The name "J W Ross" is carved upside down on the right side of the butt stock, and letter "J" carved on the left side of the butt stock. "GDM" (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes US socket bayonet and period leather sling marked "F.M.M". Provenance: The George Moller Collection

ConditionGood with moderate flash pitting and some scattered patches of light pitting on the otherwise bright metal. Stock is also good as refinished with scattered scratches and dents, some light chips, and carvings mentioned above. Mechanically excellent. Included bayonet is very good with some patches of light pitting.
