Description:

Less than 400 of these early production Remington-Beals Navy or Belt revolvers were manufactured in 1860 with experimental single wing cylinder pins. Some estimates suggest 200 or less. The low serial number "50" is marked on the left side of the grip frame, loading lever, and barrel. Unlike the later Beals revolvers, it has a single projection on the cylinder pin on the right side and has a thin extension at the front that locks in the top of the loading lever arm. The top barrel flat is stamped with the Beals' 1858 patent over the Remington Ilion address. German silver cone front sight, frame notch rear sight and fitted with smooth two-piece walnut grips. The rare wallpaper veneer partitioned box contains a double sided game bird powder flask, cleaning rod, cartridge pack, dual cavity brass bullet mold, and "L" shaped combination tool. Provenance: Robert Roughton; The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good. The revolver retains 40% original blue finish on the barrel, 40% on the cylinder and slight traces of original blue on the frame with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The grip is also fine with a number of minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. The box is good with split and repaired corners and most of the veneer remaining. The accessories are very good with the flask retaining 70% plus original lacquer. A very scarce early production Remington-Beals Navy Model Revolver with rare box.
