Description:

The Stevens Model 51 was manufactured c. 1896-1916 and is essentially a deluxe version of the "Walnut Hill" No. 50. The rifle is fitted with a windage front sight and a Vernier tang peep sight. The barrel and receiver have been non-factory drilled and tapped for sight/scope mounting. The barrel has the two-line Chicopee Falls address/patent date legend on the top flat and is marked "1" under the forearm and "32.40" on the upper left flat. The forearm and barrel are numbered to the gun. The factory deep relief scroll engraved receiver is fitted with double set triggers and a ball and spur lever. A palm rest is included. The checkered forearm and straight grip stock are nicely figured walnut. The buttstock has a right handed cheekpiece and heavy Swiss buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 40% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina and limited pitting. 50% muted original case colors remain on the receiver. The engraving is crisp. The wood is also fine with a repaired chip at the palm rest mounting bracket, minor handling marks and some blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
